5 Days /4 Night

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kigali for Overnight

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will have a meet and greet by your guide/driver from Katella Uganda Safaris who will transfer you to your hotel. You will have a briefing about your trip then check in at your lodge.
Time permitting, you will get to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or a smaller memorial just outside Kigali to learn about the history and hear about how Rwandan people are dealing with this history in current lives.

Day 2: Transfer to Musanze

This morning after breakfast, you will drive to Musanze. The two-hour drive through the rolling hills of Rwanda (Land of a Thousand Hills) takes you via the base of the magnificent volcanoes of the Virunga mountain range. You will arrive at the hotel for a hot lunch.
You will get to visit the Ellen DeGeneres / Dian Fossey Campus in Musanze for a round tour and learn about the behavior of gorillas and the work of Dian Fossey.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure as you prepare for the next day’s Volcanoes experience.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Parc des National and Ibyiwacu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast, you will be collected from the hotel and driven to Volcanoes National Park Headquarters for the start of your gorilla tracking experience. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical hour as they go about their daily life—feeding, playing, resting, raising their young. Having a close encounter with these gentle giants is one of the greatest and most memorable wildlife experiences on earth!
Returning in the afternoon, you will then visit the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village where you will be entertained and learn more about Rwandan culture, music, dance, and drama.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking Experience

This day after your breakfast, you will head to the park’s headquarters for a briefing about your golden monkey trekking experience. These are a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes monkey, known as the “blue monkey”. Seeing these playful and inquisitive monkeys leap from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor is awesome. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Optional Activities and Transfer to Kigali for Outbound Flight

After breakfast at the lodge, you will engage in optional activities and later be driven back to Kigali for your flight to your next destination.

Optional Activities:

Diane Fossey Grave Hike: You will visit the Dian Fossey tomb located near her Karisoke Research Center between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke.
Boat Ride on the Twin Lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo.
Mount Sabinyo Hike: The hike takes averagely 6 hours. Reward yourself with some of the best scenery and fresh air.
