A member of our team will meet you at the Marrakech Menara Airport and transferred to our hotel. You can enjoy some time in the city or relax in your hotel. Overnight in Marrakech.
We will begin our journey south over the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way we will wonder at the beauty of the striking orange landscapes of mountains and gorges dotted with traditional Berber villages. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: High Atlas Mountain.
In the morning, will visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is a perfect example of the traditional adobe building. It was the set for films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After lunch, we will stop in Tamgroute. It is home to a pottery cooperative of 7 families. We can learn about the methods and materials. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Tagounite
Today we will take in the local culture of southern Morocco. You can participate in a cooking class, learn how to make Moroccan tea, have henna done, enjoy traditional music or a chance to fish in a nearby river. Includes breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight: Tagounite.
Setting out for our overnight in the Sahara Desert, we will go by 4×4 on a desert safari stopping to have tea or lunch with a family that is still living the nomadic life. We will see the place where Moroccan traders used to meet others to make the long and dangerous route to Timbuktu an ancient major trading center for gold and salt. Lunch is provided along the way.
After arriving at our desert camp at Erg Chigaga, the largest dunes in Morocco, we will be welcomed with Moroccan tea and treats. Just before sunset we will take our own camel caravan into the dunes for a memorable ride and photos.
Later we will be served a delicious dinner. After dinner, we can gather under the night sky and enjoy a campfire with traditional music. The camp is well-equipped with tents or earthen rooms with a regular bed with comfortable mattress and separate bathrooms with hot showers and western toilets. You have the option to sleep under the stars. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight Sahara Desert Camp.
We will make our way across a different part of the Sahara through Lake Iriki National Park. The lake nowadays is mostly dry. It was a favorite place of the southern gazelles. It was established to protect the biodiversity, flora and fauna across 123,000 hectares of south-eastern Morocco. Along the way, we will stop at “fossil mountain” where we will be able to discover fossils of sea animals left from when this area was a sea millions of years ago. We have the opportunity to visit a Berber Woman’s Carpet Cooperative to see how the local carpets are made. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we will depart to drive to the quaint port town of Essaouria. Essaouira has its own fortified old medina that is protected by the 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah. Old brass cannons line the walls surrounding the old city that looks out into the ocean. (4.5 hrs). Includes breakfast. Overnight in Essaouira.
Spend the day enjoying the small port town of Essaouira on your own. Optional activities include quad, camel or horse riding on the beach, surfing lessons, yoga or hammam (Moroccan spa treatment). Includes breakfast. Overnight in Essaouira.
After breakfast we make our way to Rabat, the capital of Morocco (5 hrs). We will spend a little time exploring the city. Overnight in Rabat.
After breakfast in your riad, we will make our way to Fes. Our time in Fes includes a local guide. We will have a chance to visit the Royal Palace, Mellah, the Jewish quarter neighborhood, the University of al-Qarawiyyin. As well, we will visit the Chouara Tannery, the largest and oldest tannery. Breakfast included. Overnight in Fes.
After breakfast in your riad, we will drive to Volubilis (1.5 hrs) a partly-excavated Berber-Roman city, developed int he 3rd century BC. After our visit, we will continue to Chefchaouen, also known as the blue city (3 hrs). It is located in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco, and is known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of the old town. Here you will have free time to relax and explore the town on your own or optional activities can be arranged for you including: photo tour with local history guide, night tour, cooking class, hike to waterfalls. Breakfast included. Overnight Chefchaouen (2 nights)
After breakfast we will drive to Casablanca (5 hrs). While in Casablanca you can take a tour of Hassan II Mosque, the largest functioning mosque in Africa and one of the only mosques in the world where non-muslims can enter. We can arrange optional dinner for you at Rick’s Cafe (modeled after the cafe in the movie “Casablanca”.)
